Sustainability Conference 2012

Background | Supporters

Submission Deadline
The final deadline for submitting a proposal for an in-person presentation at the conference is November 24, 2011.  After that date, you are welcome to register as a non-presenting delegate or submit your proposal for a virtual presentation.  However, no proposals received after November 24, 2011 will be considered for on-site presentations.
Registration Deadlines

To ensure that your presentation is scheduled in the printed program, registration must be complete (and all payments received) by December 9, 2011.  If your proposal has been accepted, and you cannot complete your payment until you arrive at the conference, we will schedule you into an available session at that time.  Your presentation will be posted on the notice board at the conference, and it will be listed in the final program online.  But please note: your presentation will not appear in the printed program that is distributed at the conference.

New Session Formats

For this conference, all parallel paper presentations have been grouped into Themed Sessions. Compared to individual paper sessions, Themed Sessions define the themes and topics of the conference more clearly and make it easier for delegates to identify sessions of interest. Themed Sessions also increase the audience for a given presentation and stimulate more discussion on the topic at hand.

In this format, authors present summaries or overviews of their complete paper, describing the essential features (purpose, procedures, and outcome, product, or results) of their scholarly work. The formal oral presentation of work should be limited to 15 minutes.  Group discussion and Q&A follows after all formal presentations.

We look forward to seeing you in Vancouver!

Welcome to the website of the Eighth International Conference on Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability. The 2012 Conference is to be held at the Robson Square, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada From 10 to 12 January. The Conference will work in a multidisciplinary way across the various fields and perspectives through which we can address the fundamental and related questions of sustainability.

Plenary speakers include some of the leading thinkers in these areas, as well as numerous paper, colloquium and workshop presentations. Participants are welcome to submit a proposal for a 30-minute paper, 60-minute workshop, or a jointly presented 90-minute colloquiumsession. Parallel sessions are loosely grouped into streams reflecting different perspectives or disciplines. Each stream also has its own talking circle, a forum for focused discussion of issues. Virtual participation is also available.

Participants may choose to submit written papers before or after the Conference for possible publication in The International Journal of Environmental, Cultural, Economic and Social Sustainability, a fully refereed academic Journal. All Conference participants receive an online subscription to the Journal for one year after the Conference.
